Returning to Japan
Hey everyone,
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be returning to Japan for an upcoming tour in November that’s very close to my heart. Japan has always held a special place in my musical journey. It all started years ago when I was touring the Far East with the band State of Monc. During that time, I met saxophonist, Yuichiro Tokuda, who was also performing at the Nanjing jazz festival in China. We quickly became friends, and that friendship blossomed into a deep musical connection. Yuichiro invited me to join his 10 year celebration of his band RALYZZDIG.
Touring Japan with Yuichiro’s band was a fantastic experience—one that truly opened my eyes to the vibrancy and energy of the Japanese jazz scene. In 2015, I had the honor of inviting Yuichiro to join me for a series of concerts in the Netherlands and Belgium. Those shows were unforgettable, and the reception we received was beyond anything I could have imagined. Jazznu called our performances “a bombardment of speed, technique, emotion, and surprise,” which really captured the spirit of what we were trying to create together.
That collaboration led to the formation of the Joris Posthumus Group and the release of the Tokyo’s Bad Boys album in 2016, an album that still means a lot to me. We toured Japan ,the Netherlands and Belgium, and even made it to the North Sea Jazz Festival. It was a time of incredible growth and discovery for me as a musician.
Now, I’m excited to return to Japan with something new—an extension of that journey, filled with the same passion and drive that has always guided my music. I’ve put together an amazing group of musicians, including some familiar faces from the Tokyo’s Bad Boys project and some new talents who are bringing fresh energy to our sound.
This tour is more than just a series of gigs. It’s about reconnecting with my friends and musicians who are important to me and my music. I can’t wait to play for you all and share what we’ve been working on.
Stay tuned for more details—I promise it’s going to be something special. Japan, I’m coming back, and I can’t wait to see you on the road.
Matane!
Joris
